League Information – Winter 2024-25

Location: The Brownson House

Start Date: Monday December 7 , 2025

End Date: Mid-March, 2025

Age Groups: 1st & 2nd Grade through 7th & 8th Grade

Registration Fee: $320 per team + referee fees of $180

Admission FeeAdults – $2.50; Senior Citizens – $1.50; Children (2nd-12th Grade) – $1.50

League Rules

The season will begin play on Monday, November 29th, 2020 and the season will finish by the end of February or early March of 2022. The deadline to register teams in to the league is Friday, November 19th, 2020.

3rd, 4th, and 5th grade games will have two officials scheduled by the Brownson House. The games will be Monday through Thursday at 5:00, 6:00, 7:00, or 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00 p.m. We may have to play Friday evenings depending on the number of teams that commit to the leagues. The Friday night schedule would be games at 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 p.m.

3rd, 4th, and 5th grade games will play by National Federation Rules except:

  1. No full court press until the last minute of the game.
  2. The free throw shooter can cross the line on a jump. If the officials feel they are trying to gain a rebounding advantage by running into the lane a violation will be called.

6th grade and 7th/8th grade games will follow National Federation Rules. The games will be Monday through Thursday at 5:00, 6:00, 7:00, or 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 am,12:00 noon, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, and 4:00 p.m. We may have to play Friday evenings depending on the number of teams that commit to the leagues.

Games will consist of two 15-minute halves. It is a continuous running clock for the first 13 minutes of each half and the clock will only stop for free throws, time outs, and official’s time. The clock will stop on ALL whistles the last two minutes of each half.

Teams will have 5 timeouts per game. 3 full timeouts and two 30 second timeouts.

A 28.5 sized basketball will be used in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade games.
A 29.5 sized ball will be used in 6th and 7th &8th grade games.

Overtime periods will be two minutes.

3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teams will only be allowed to full court press in the last minute of each overtime.

For the first minute of O.T.  it is a continuous running clock and the last minute it will stop on all whistles.

3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th/8th teams will play an eight-game schedule plus playoffs. Every team qualifies for the playoffs.

Players can move up a grade, but not down. A player can only play on one team during the season. A player from a split team or a player from the same school district’s lower grade team can participate in a regular season game to avoid forfeits, but the Brownson House and the opposing coach should be made aware of the situation prior to tip-off of the game. NO PLAYERS CAN PLAY ON TWO TEAMS DURING THE PLAYOFFS. If a player plays for two different teams in the playoffs it will be a forfeit for both teams.

All players must play for the school district they attend, unless they go to a school (private, parochial, or etc.) that doesn’t play in the Brownson House League, and then they are required to play for the school district in which they reside.

PIAA and/or Brownson House officials will be used for all games.

All coaches are required comply with the Act 153 criminal background checks. This isn’t a Brownson House rule this is the Pennsylvania Law.

  • Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse History Clearance Form (Free through the state)
  • Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check (Free through the state)
  • The FBI Child Abuse History Clearance ($25.75 through the state) or if they have lived in the state of Pennsylvania for 10 consecutive years sign the waiver provided by the Brownson House.
  • Teams from outside the state of Pennsylvania will be required to complete a waiver stating that all coaches have had background checks and are permitted to work with children.

Membership fee is $320.00 per team and $180.00 to cover official fees. Your organization will be responsible for the total cost of $500.00 per team.  The membership fee of $320.00 will go to the Brownson House, and the $180.00 will be kept to pay one official $20.00 each game played.

Each team will be required to pay one official $20.00 prior to tip off of every game. (9 games) 8 regular season games and the first playoff game X $20.00 = $180.00 for the season.

League Rules

  • 4th and 5th graders can ONLY full court press the last minute of the game. The free throw shooter is permitted to jump into the lane on the shot, but if they run into the lane to gain an advantage on the rebound they will be called for a lane violation. All other rules are National Federation Rules.
  • 6th grade game will follow all National Federation Rules.
  • Games will consist of two 15 minute halves. It is a running clock for the first 13 minutes of each half. During the first 13 minutes of each half the clock will only stop for free throws and time outs. The last two minutes of each half the clock will stop on all whistles.
  • Each team gets 5 timeouts, 3 full timeouts, and two 30 second timeouts.
  • Overtime is two minutes. 4th and 5th graders can only press the last minute of overtime. The first minute of overtime the clock is run continuously. The last minute the clock will stop on all whistles. Each team will receive one additional timeout per overtime period.
  • A 28.5 size ball will be used for all games.
  • Players can play up in grade but not down. Players can move up a grade to another team in the same grade division. They must be from their district or play for another team from the same school district during the REGULAR season. This is to avoid forfeits.
  • NO PLAYER SHOULD BE PLAYING FOR TEAMS ALL SEASON.
  • If a team doesn’t have 5 players to start a playoff game it is a forfeit.
  • PIAA or Brownson House officials will be scheduled for all games.
  • All coaches must provide a criminal background check to the Brownson House to coach in the leagues. This is the law.
  • The season will consist of 7 regular season games. All teams will qualify for the single elimination playoffs, that will start immediately following the conclusion of the regular season.
  • Player must play for the team in the school district they attend. If they are home schoool or attend a private or parochial school that doesn’t participate in the Brownson House Basketball League, they are permitted to play for the district in which they live.

Start Date: Mid March 2025

End Date: Mid May 2025

Age Groups: 1st & 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th & 8th grade leagues

Registration Fee: $320.oo per team and officials fees of $20 per game (8 game season official fees = $160)

Admission Fee: Adults $2.50 Senior Citizens and students grades 2nd through 12th $1.50

League Rules

The Brownson House girls Youth Basketball League will start the last week of February 2018. The league will finish before April 30.The leagues will be as follows:
  • 1st & 2nd grade combined
  • 3rd grade
  • 4th grade
  • 5th grade
  • 6th grade
  • 7th & 8th grade

 

 

 

The 1st & 2nd game league is instructional. Coaches will referee all the games. Each team must provide one official. All officials will need a whistle. Referees/coaches must be willing to call the game and instruct both teams. Games are played on 9 foot hoops. Games will be 55 minutes in length, periods will be 5 minutes. NO SCORE WILL BE KEPT ON THE SCOREBOARD OR BENCHES. Games will be played Monday – Thursday at 5:00 or 6:00 pm and on Saturdays starting at 2:00 pm and lasting until 5:00 pm. Teams will play an 8 game schedule. NO PLAYOFFS. Defenses CAN’T guard beyond the red line at the top of the key on The Brownson House floor.

  • 3rd through 7th and 8th grade games will have two officials scheduled by The Brownson House.

  • Payment to the Brownson House for the Registration fee is $320.00.  Coaches should keep the additional $160.00 to pay officials at the start of each game.

Age Groups: Players entering 8th grade through 12th grade for upcoming school year

Admission FeeAdults – $3.00; Children (2nd-12th Grade) – $2.00

League Rules

  1. Players must carry basketball shoes to the gym
  2. PIAA ruleset
  3. Officials will be PIAA. Coaches will have no choice in who referees their games. No requests for officials
  4. Running clock 16 minute halves varsity and junior varsity 15 minute halves (clock stopping on all free throws) and last two minutes of each half clock stops on all whistles
  5. Overtime 3 minutes clock will stop on all whistles in the last two minutes of overtime
  6. Substitutions will be done on the whistle
  7. Two coaches per bench, section reserved for players and coaches
  8. No unsportsmanlike conduct will be tolerated by any spectator, coach, or player. We reserve the right to suspend anyone whose conduct is detrimental to the league
  9. Any player, coach, or spectator will be held responsible for any damages and will be suspended from the league
  10. Unlimited final roster must be submitted by the fifth game of the season
  11. Five minute warm up between games. Teams should bring basketballs for warm up
  12. Gym entrance is located next to the athletic field. Weekday doors open at 5:30. Weekend doors open at 12:30
  13. Admission: Adults $3.00 & Students $2.00
  14. Parking available across the street in the lower and upper parking lots
